Stuart and Laurie Silcox called Clarke Basement Systems to inspect their crawl space. Their concerns were rooted in the poor condition of their floor joists and the high humidity. With the moisture through the roof, this was directly contributing to the deterioration of the floor joists. It also led to some unwelcomed pests and rodents – they were not a fan. This was a very important and urgent issue for them to solve as they were in the midst of making this Port Elgin cottage their permanent home. They needed to be sure their home was safe and structurally sound. This affected their family because until this work was completed, they weren’t comfortable settling into their new home. Both Stuart and Laurie were most affected because they had multiple other contractors present them with proposed work to fix their home, but they simply weren’t confident enough to move forward with anyone. On top of that, we fully sealed off their crawl space so that rodents and insects denied access, and humidity would be kept in check. A customer in Stouffville, Ontario, had an issue about the original foundation of their century home. The original foundation had been letting in a lot of water which was damaging their belongings. During heavy rainfalls, the area would flood creating a musty smell. A ThermalDry® Wall Membrane was placed on top of the original foundation to collect moisture and water. It drained the water into the WaterGuard® Drainage System. Our customers were thrilled to have kept the original foundation of their home intact which made their basement dry and useful again.

This homeowner in Beeton, Ontario, was planning to renovate his main floor. Unfortunately, he ran into some technical difficulties because his floors were unstable, giving them a bouncy feeling while walking on them. To go through with Renos, he needed to restore the floors’ integrity so they could hold. He called Clarke Basement Systems with hopes that we could provide him with a solution that would last and allow him to move forward. System Design Specialist Ben Wallis suggested our SmartJack® crawl space stabilizer to solve his problem.

Installation Foreman Dustin Biggs installed 10 of our patented SmartJack®. The SmartJack® is a steel pier that can be adjusted accordingly if future settling occurs. Once installed, the piers will immediately stabilize the floor and bring it back to its proper level. After all ten were installed, the customer could feel the difference immediately as the feet no longer bounced! This gave him great relief and assurance that his home was now safe to renovate.

Homeowners in Unionville, ON, were having water seepage issues in their cold room. Water was leaking from the walls and ceiling. System Design Specialist, Ron Monk, concluded that our patented Crawlspace Encapsulation System would be the exact solution to permanently waterproof their cold room.
