Nothing is worse than going into your basement to retrieve something, only to find all of your belongings soaking wet. It’s an unfortunate situation that can be quite costly or destroy an important family heirloom.
A customer in Toronto, Ontario, reached out to Clarke Basement Systems after he discovered that not only were his belongings wet, but there was potential for mould problems too.
System Design Specialist Ben Wallis met with the customer and designed a waterproofing solution that would save their basement and protect their belongings. Foreman Dave Jackson and his crew installed a WaterGuard® Drain System to catch and drain groundwater seeping into the basement. To encapsulate and insulate the space, we used ThermalDry™ Wall Membrane. Catching the water is one thing, but to remove the water, a SuperSump® Sump Pump and IceGuard® Discharge Line were installed. Lastly, since mould was threatening the structure, an Aprilaire® MoistureLoc Dehumidifier was installed to keep the relative humidity below 55%.
The customer is thrilled that they can finally use their basement again and no longer have to worry about their belongings being ruined. Their home is protected, and mould doesn’t stand a chance!

Getting into the real estate market is tough, and transforming your new space into a basement rental is much more challenging. In Toronto, Ontario, these new homeowners purchased a home with a basement that can transform into a great apartment. Unfortunately, before proceeding with renos, many health and safety measures needed to be taken, such as waterproofing the space. There were no signs of water entering the basement, but the homeowners knew that with an old house as such, they would need to be proactive before any water damage could make a repair more expensive. Clarke Basement Systems was just the company they needed to permanently keep the space encapsulated from the elements all year. Ron Monk, our experienced System Design Specialist, recommended 5 systems that all work hand-in-hand to keep this space protected.
Our installation crew, constructed of Jose Martinez, Trevor Bowman, and Connor Pearce, arrived at the property to transform this cold, mucky basement into a liveable and clean apartment. The homeowners were not only taken aback by the hard work put into it but were thrilled that they did not have to worry about safety when finishing the basement.

A car repair shop in Toronto, Ontario has many cars coming in and out. In the winter the snow and slush melts and causes the garage floor to flood. The business owner and employees had to push the water to one small drain far away, taking time away from the customers. The business owner wanted a solution that would benefit the company and avoid loss of time.
The owner called Clarke Basement Systems and spoke to Claude Mathieu, who explained the process to our solution. Don Clarke and the team came in and installed interior and exterior TrenchDrain® Drainage System and a SuperSump® Premier sump pump system. The TrenchDrain® captures the melting snow and water and drains it into the SuperSump. The TrenchDrain® was located in the floor at floor level in areas that the snow and slush would melt off the cars. The owner and employees no longer waste valuable time dealing with pooling surface water.

This home from the 40s had been a work in progress for this owner. He spent the majority of his life here and had added more rooms and even extended the front patio making it more space. As the weather shifted and years went by, the front portion of the house started slanting, warping the floor and creating a bump in the floor. This concerned the homeowner and he thought that it would collapse within itself. Our System Design Specialist, Ron Monk, inspected the settling floor. It was coming from the crawl space and the beams started to crack. Ron suggested our SmartJacks™ lift and stabilize the house for good. The homeowner saw videos of the system and was familiar with our work so he said yes in a heartbeat. Our Installation Foreman, Dave Jackson, and Specialist, Bryan Richards, went to the home's rescue. They knew the work that was needed beforehand and had many ways to tackle the situation. Dave started to dig pits at the footing where the SmartJacks™ would sit. After the holes were prepped, he poured finely grated gravel inside and sawzalled the ground applying pressure. Once the gravel was as firm as concrete it was time to cut the SmartJacks™ to size and level them. There were a total of 3 jacks and a concrete post that was being unused in the crawl space to support and lift the floor back to its original height. After completing the work, Dave took the homeowner down to take a look and explain what was installed, how to care for it after 5 years, and how to reach us if he has any questions. The owner was amazed by the system saying, "It is great to see the home standing tall again. I spent so much time and effort making this home mine, and to see it being saved makes me happy."
These new homeowners in Toronto, Ontario, want to transform their basement into an apartment to help pay off their mortgages. However, before completing this unfinished basement, they wanted to be proactive and adequately waterproof the space to protect it from the elements and increase the lifespan of the apartment. Clarke Basement Systems being the reliable company for this job, our System Design Specialist, Ron Monk, recommended five products to keep the space dry. ThermalDry® insulation, WaterGuard® perimeter drainage system, SuperSump®, UltraSump®, and IceGuard® were installed. Jose Martinez, Trevor Bowman, and Connor came to the rescue and meticulously installed all the products leaving no room for water to leak into the basement. The homeowner was ecstatic about the professionalism, clean work, and explanation of the products. This basement apartment is ready to be finished!
Alexis from Toronto had just bought a new home and was interested in transforming her basement to help with her mortgage. She asked Clarke Basement Systems to waterproof her basement so that her investment was protected for years to come. System Design Specialist, Ron Monk created a preventative solution for her soon-to-be basement apartment. We used our ThermalDry® wall system, WaterGuard® sub-floor drainage system to prevent any moisture or potential water seepage from damaging the new renovations. Lastly, we placed a SuperSump® system paired with an IceGuard® at the exterior to ensure any water seepage would find its way out of the home, and not freeze. Alexis was so pleased with the finished job she left us a 5-star Google Review. Now, she can continue renovating without the fear of water damaging her home.
