Zsuzsanna K. was getting increasingly concerned about the condition of the crawl space in her 1820’s stone house. It was leaking, full of musty odours and home to many insects and rodents. She also noticed the structure was rotting and beginning to sag. Musty smells were starting to infiltrate the house. Zsuzsanna was worried that if the crawl space were left untreated, it would negatively impact the structure or lead to mould, making the house unlivable. To ease her mind, Zsuzsanna contacted Clarke Basement Systems to get the best permanent solution to this problem.
For this project, Ben Wallis, System Design Specialist, developed a comprehensive solution to solve the various issues in the crawl space. The solution involved bringing in soil vacuum trucks to remove the soil from under the floor inside the crawlspace. Then, a full perimeter of crawl space encapsulation and proper sump system were installed along with two SmartJacks™ to support the upper structure making the repair permanent. The total system solution included our patented CleanSpace® Basement Wall Vapour Barrier, R20 ThermalDry® Wall System, SmartJack™ Crawl Space Stabilizer, SuperSump® Premier Sump Pump System and UltraSump® Battery Back-Up System. Together, these systems were able to successfully direct moisture from the earth to the sump system keeping the crawl space dry while stabilizing and improving the structural integrity of the house.

The customer called us at Clarke Basement Systems and Ben Wallis explained the proces that would be done to the cold cellar. Luke Havercourt and the crew came in and installed ThermalDry wall membrane on the walls of the space to collect any water or moisture that may seep through and direct it into the newly installed drainage system. The WaterGuard was installed around the full perimeter of the cold cellar. . They installed WaterGuard sub-floor drainage system and ThermalDry wall membrane.
The customer was satisfied because this job was able to be complete in one day. The customer can now use the cold cellar for storage without the worry of damaged personal items.
