Basement Waterproofing Case Studies: Wet Basement Threatens Baby's Health in Whitby, Ontario
Challenge
There are endless reasons why someone wants to waterproof their basement. It could be for entertaining, storage, a home office, or even increasing the value of their home. While these are all important, they don’t measure up to the health of a family member.
A customer in Whitby, Ontario, has a home with a young baby, and a water seepage problem. The problem was getting so bad that mould and nasty odours were present, raising concern for the new parents. The husband also used the space for a home office. They had previously tried to have the space waterproofed from the exterior, but this solution started to fail after only a few months.
Solution
Concerned for their child and home’s wellbeing, the family turned to Clarke Basement Systems. System Design Specialist Ryan Hanlon met with the family and inspected the house. Ryan designed a system to keep the basement dry, and a date was set for the installation.
Foreman Lucio Flores started by encapsulating the space with ThermalDry® Wall Membrane, stopping the water while also adding a layer of insulation. Next, a full perimeter of WaterGuard® was installed to catch water and send it to the new SuperSump® Pump.
With their basement finally dry, the family couldn’t be happier. The husband can finally use his office space again, and they no longer need to worry about any mould problems.
