Basement Waterproofing Case Studies: Wet Crawl Space Threatens Home's Integrity on Neustadt, Ontario
Challenge
While crawl spaces tend to be smaller than basements, they still have their perks. You gain an entire area or level and they can add value to your home. They also make a great area for storing belongings, so long as they stay dry.
A couple in Neustadt, Ontario, was dealing with water and high humidity in their crawl space. The home was built on a block foundation and is over 100 years old. With a home this old water seepage is a common issue, so the customers reached out to Clarke Basement Systems for a solution.
Solution
System Design Specialist Robert Langton met with the homeowners and inspected their home. They wanted the space encapsulated and Robert designed the perfect system to suit their needs.
Foreman Jose Martinez started by laying down CleanSpace® Drainage Matting over the entire crawl space floor. This allows any groundwater that comes to the surface to properly drain back into the soil. To encapsulate the area, Jose installed CleanSpace® Vapour Barrier, stopping moisture at the point of entry. To complement the Drainage Matting a SmartDrain® was installed as well. Lastly, a SaniDry® Dehumidifier was used to reduce the relative humidity, preventing damage to the structural framing of the home.
The happy couple finally has a crawl space worthy of their belongings. They can safely store whatever they’d like without worries of it getting wet, and have a proven solution to keep their basement dry.
