Basement Waterproofing Case Studies: Wet Basement Puts Reno for New Grandchild on Hold in Gravenhurst, Ontario
Challenge
Becoming a grandparent is a huge milestone for anyone. You get to see your child have one of their own, and you can watch your legacy grow into another generation. Grandparents love spoiling their grandkids, and most importantly, spending time with them.
A customer in Gravenhurst, Ontario, couldn’t wait for their new grandchild to arrive. They were eager to spend time with him or her, but a wet basement was holding them back from creating a room and living space for their new grandkid.
Water was entering the basement whenever there was a thaw, and the excited grandparents were concerned about health issues the water damage could cause down the road. They could barely even store anything in the space without fear of it getting ruined. “The basement had three to four inches of water on the floor, and we could not keep up with it,” said the frustrated homeowner. Tired of water and anxious to renovate the basement, the customers reached out to Clarke Basement Systems.
Solution
The grandparents were keen on getting their basement fixed properly and followed along every step of the way as System Design Specialist Kayton Zarhloul completed his inspection. Impressed by the options for waterproofing, they went ahead with the system design by Kayton.
To waterproof the entire basement, a number of products were needed. Foreman Lucio Flores and his crew started by a TripleSafe® Sump Pump and an UltraSump® Battery Backup. The TripleSafe® is an efficient and reliable way to remove any water from the basement, and the UltraSump® Backup prevents failure in the case of a power outage.
To catch the water where it was entering, Lucio installed a WaterGuard® Drain System around the perimeter of the basement. WaterGuard® catches water and feeds it to the sump pump where it’s removed. To help ensure any water that is drained out stays out, an IceGuard® Discharge Line was installed, preventing discharge from freezing and backing up.
Since the family wanted to finish the basement right away, we utilized Basement to Beautiful™ Wall Panels for the soon to be finished area of the basement. These panels are waterproof and act as a vapour barrier but are also ready for a wall to be built right over top. For the other half of the basement, ThermalDry® Wall Membrane was used to encapsulate the walls. ThermalDry® is an excellent choice for finished basements since it also acts as an insulator. Lastly, we installed WellDuct® Drains to prevent the basement window wells from flooding.
With their basement finally dry, the eager grandparents can start their renovation. They’re thrilled they can finally create a space for the new addition to their family, and they don’t have to worry about health issues from water damage.
