New Home Purchase Turned Out To Be A Smelly Wet Nightmare, Churchill ON

Laura and Patrick were looking for a new home to raise their family when they stumbled across this lakeside gem in the quiet town of Churchill. Everything was sound during their final home inspection until they opened the hatch to the ‘dungeon.’ Dungeon is the term they used to describe their crawl space, and even that didn't do it justice. Upon closer inspection, the crawl space was showing serious signs of neglect. An odour radiated through the home that they couldn't put their finger on and chalked it up to being a hot, musty day. It turns out it came from all the wet and rotten organic materials in the crawl space. The vapour barrier that once was, is now scrunched up into a ball and splitting at the seams allowing for all that nasty moisture to come up through the dirt floor and into their home. We checked the relative humidity levels to prove their suspicions that the crawl space was affecting the home's health. They were a whopping 83.5%, and all the wood floor joists held a lot of moisture. This involved the customers because they had finally found their dream home to begin raising their family, but due to the crawl space condition, they were unsure if it would be a safe environment for their children. They were frantic after discovering the growing list of problems arising from the crawl space. This added a lot of anxiety to the already stressful task of moving your family across towns. This hindered them from moving into their new home until they found a solution because they had a newborn baby girl and another child under two.
