Fixing Moldy Cottage Basement in Kilworthy, ON

Every floor of your home is in its best condition when putting it on the market. Unfortunately, this homeowner had a moist, mouldy, and smelly basement that deterred many potential buyers. In addition, the space had raised many red flags regarding its ability to hold up the home because many floor joists had begun to rot. With this home being a family generation cottage, the homeowner, Sandra, wanted a change and tried to sell it as soon as possible. Sandra reached out to the professionals at Clarke Basement Systems to quote a solution to permanently fix the dampness and mould so the cottage can get more buyer interest. Our System Design Specialist, Logan Watson, came to the home and started his investigation. He quoted five products to keep all moisture out and properly discharge water.

  • The first two products were sump pumps, one being a SuperSump and the next being an UltraSump. The space was too big to have only one, so both needed to be on opposite ends. The SuperSump operates the same as a regular sump, but when the water reaches an alarming height, the built-in alarm system chimes to inform the homeowner that there is a surplus of water. As for the UltraSump, this pump operates regularly but has a battery back, so it runs when the power goes out.
  • Next product would be drainage matting. This will allow all the water in the basement to reach the designated sump pump.
  • Following, we will install our CleanSpace® wall membrane that will keep all outside water from entering the basement and connect to the matting discussed earlier.
  • Lastly, our team will install our IceGuard® Anti-freezing discharge line attachment. This product prevents any freezing at the line and allows water to move freely.

Our experienced installer Lucio Flores working alongside Stefano Santobuono started the work. Each product was installed flawlessly, leaving Sandra flabbergasted. She raved to her family about the great work we've done and can have decided to stay put and not sell the cottage. But, instead, sprucing up the home made her love it again.
