Basement Waterproofing Case Studies: Soaking Wall Crack in Vaughn Ontario
Challenge
In Vaughan, Ontario, a home's basement floor started to get wet during rainy days which confused the homeowmners wondering where the water was coming from. After following the source, the homeowners found that there was a wall crack that was inviting all the water into the basement. Thinking they could do the repair themselves, they decided to contact the professionals at Clarke Basement Systems to seal off the wall's fracture. Our experienced System Design Specialist, Chris Luke, arrived to see what options the owners had. Chris mentioned that they contacted us at the right time, becasue if the problem was left for another month, the cracks could have spiderwebbed into more. The primary option was to use our FlexiSpan® wall crack repair system that keeps all the water behind the wall, lets it run down to the footing, and drain beneath the surface.
Solution
Approvals from the homeowners meant that we coukld schedule them for a service. Our Service Technician, Ali Fereidouni, brought the system and warm personality to the home. He started by inspecting the crack, and seeing how he would approach the situation; since it is a singular crack, it will be straightforward. After cleaning any dust and debris off the walls, he started by making the drain on the floor. Following step was to ensure there is drainage or he would have to dig deeper until there is. Next, he started applying our flexi caulking to the walls alongside the single celled foam strip where the crack was. The foam will soack up the water and have it run along the wall and to the ground. In conclusion he inserted a small piece of Cactus Board against the wall and sealed the drain with concrete. Ali invited the homeowners downstairs to show what had been installed, how to let it cure, and if they had any questions. They were thrilled to see the space so clean and dry. Smiles all around for our new clients in Vaughan Ontario.
