Basement Waterproofing Case Studies: Waterproofing New Basement Apartment
Challenge
Challenge
In Toronto, Ontario, a client just bought a semi-detached apartment and wanted to put in a basement apartment to help offset their mortgage. With no visible signs of water in their unfinished basement, the homeowners wanted to be proactive and get a fully warranted waterproofed basement. Older homes in Toronto tend to have cracks in their basement walls or waterproof issues, so she contacted Clarke Basement Systems to ensure her new investment was safe.

Experienced System Design Specialist Ron Monk recommended five products to thoroughly encapsulate the home and keep it dry all year round. Our installation team, Jose Martinez, Trevor Bowman, and Connor Pearce, strategically placed each product. The systems used were WaterGuard®, ThermalDry®, SuperSump®, UltraSump®, and IceGuard®. You must be wondering why there are two sump pumps – based on the ample square footage of the basement apartment, two sump pumps need to be installed to discharge water out of the home evenly. The client was excited to move on with the next phase of building the basement apartment, knowing she would not come across any water entering the space.
