Basement Waterproofing Case Studies: Not So Tiny CrawlSpace Encapsulation in Tiny, Ontario
Challenge
Problem:
The homeowner called us in for the first time in 2014 to inspect his crawl space since he and his wife had spent a lot of time renovating their cottage. They complained about the musty, smelly, mouldy, and ugly-looking crawl space. Not to mention the fact that it was compromising the floor joists due to high relative humidity and moisture. After a lot of thought, it ultimately just wasn’t the right time for them. We visited him again a few years later as the problems kept persisting, but again it wasn’t the right time for him and his wife. He said, ‘it was hard to justify spending money on something you don’t see every day’. Although, after letting these problems continue, they started noticing mould in the upper level of their cottage and a smell they simply couldn’t ignore. Logan Watson visited Clay for the third and final time in September and sat down with him to go through all the newfound problems and discuss how we’d propose to fix them. After eight years, they pulled the trigger to stop this nightmare.
Solution
Solution:
The production team removed organic materials. They then tied up all loose wires nice and tight to the floor joists, so they were out of the way. We installed our Smart Drain and then rolled out drainage matting on the entire floor and sealed any gaps around piers and columns with spray foam. Then the team encapsulated the area with CleanSpace on walls, floors, and all piers. Next, we installed vent covers and Everlast Door to seal off the space. Lastly, Sanidry Sedona was installed and set to 55%.
We came in and accomplished all the goals that he asked us to do. He and his wife were extremely happy. They both called Logan after to say they wished they’d done things sooner. If only they knew how much it would really transform their crawl space the first time they talked to a Clarke Basement System Design Specialist.
