Clarke Basement Systems Case Studies: A Flexible Solution
Challenge
Basements aren't basements if they cost you a fortune to heat, chill, and constantly dry up. Unfortunately, our client in Stouffville was dealing with this exact situation with a large crack in their basement. This crack invited in moisture and cold air creating a musty smell. Fortunately, they have used us before for a different job, so our clients trusted us to seal this crack effectively and permanently.
Solution
Chris Luke and installation foreman Don Clarke completed this project in two days – one day for the inspection and the other day for the actual job. To properly seal the crack, you need to have a drainage point that runs through the seam and into a reservoir, a sump pump, or a floor drain. The infamous technology we use for basement wall cracking is called FelxiSpan®. FlexiSpan® essentially seals the crack with valuable material in the event of structural shifting and directs running water down to the ground. As a result, water does not penetrate the material and makes it fail-proof. Now that the FlexiSpan® is in place, a sealant is applied around the drainage system. The piece is embedded in the wall while providing extra protection against the elements. See the photos below: the wood frame is soaked from excessive water. By installing the FlexiSpan® system, the wall is covered from floor to ceiling, preventing water from coming into the basement. A drainage system was placed under the floor below the problem spot directing water away from the house. Since we had done work at this home before, our clients were ecstatic seeing our familiar faces and outstanding work. The home's storage room is now dry and toasty.
