Foundation Repair Case Studies: Rear Wall Leveling Using Push Piers in Orillia, Ontario
Challenge
A house is more than just a home, it’s also an investment. Often times it’s the biggest purchase a person makes in their lifetime, and they want that purchase to last. Not only for safety reasons, but for financial security too. For an Orillia, Ontario customer though, a settling foundation put their home’s longevity on the rocks.
Poor soil conditions caused the rear wall to settle and separate from the rest of the house. There were visible cracks and gaps, along with problems with the interior framing, floors, doors and windows. If something wasn’t done the wall would continue to separate before eventually failing completely.
The customer had previously hired a company to diagnose and fix the problem, but they lost confidence in their ability to complete the job successfully. They did not want to risk any more issues with their home. If they were going to put money into their investment, they wanted the job to be done properly. That’s when they reached out to Clarke Basement Systems.
Solution
System Design Specialist Rob Malcomson assessed the damage and came up with a plan to get their house back to level ground. Foreman Don Clarke and his team utilized push piers to jack up the home back to its original position. Push piers are driven into the ground deep enough that they go past the weak soil, sitting on top of either bedrock or strong, solid soil. They are bracketed onto rear wall and evenly support the weight of the home, ensuring it stays level for years to come.
The customer is very happy that their home and wall are stabilized, and their house is straight again. They can continue to work on their investment without the fear of their house structure failing, and the 25-year warranty gives them peace of mind. You could say the owner can finally think “straight” again!
