Crawl Space Repair Case Studies: Cold Room Waterproofing and Encapsulation in Unionville, ON
Challenge
Homeowners in Unionville, ON had a cold room which was leaking from the ceiling and walls. The cold room was initially used for storage, but due to the water, it made the homeowners unable to use the room anymore. They were upset that the room had to be cleared of all of their belongings and was worried about any possible mould. They moved their stored items in the finished area of the basement, which got in their way. They knew that they needed to have a solution to the leaking in their cold room to put their storage back where it belonged.
Solution
The homeowners contacted Clarke Basement Systems and scheduled an inspection with System Design Specialist, Ron Monk.
Ron Monk attended the home and conducted a thorough inspection. He concluded that our Encapsulation System, which isolates and insulates the exterior walls from the interior of the room while effectively managing water seepage, was the perfect permanent solution.
After explaining our Encapsulation System to the homeowners, they were confident in Ron Monk’s solution. Soon after, Installation Foreman, Jose Martinez and his team attended the home to install our patented products.
Jose Martinez and his team removed all shelves, wall and ceiling materials to expose the bare concrete walls. Then installed our patented WaterGuard® drainage system along the perimeter of the cold room which connected to a SmartSump®. The insulation was installed on the ceiling and exterior walls. The walls were then wrapped with our patented CleanSpace® Wall Membrane System to isolate the exterior walls from the interior walls of the room. Last but not least, the ceiling was finished with a vinyl drainage channel to ensure water penetration from the ceiling is collected and drained to the WaterGuard® installed around the perimeter.
After the work was completed, the homeowner was relieved that they had dry usable space to store their belongings. The work completed allowed the customer to reclaim 64 square feet of storage space in the basement, and they couldn't be happier.
