Basement Waterproofing Case Studies: Basement is Finally Waterproofed
Challenge
This home on the quiet side of Mississauga had a basement that gave the homeowners trouble for four years straight. The room with the Sump Pump and HVAC system had poor waterproofing to the point that the walls would leak into the lower part of the basement. The leak would leave 2 inches of water in the basement every summer, damaging all the belongings and needing to be flushed and re-done yearly. The small room needed to be gutted, and the water was channelled correctly into the sump pump to stop flooding in the future. The homeowners did not trust the previous waterproofers that had fixed their basement, so they searched for the best waterproofers to do the work. With Clarke Basement Systems being at the top of their search page, it was a no-brainer to put their trust in an honest yet reliable company.
Solution
With a phone call away, we sent out our System Design Specialist, Dean Merendino, to investigate the home's waterproofing issue. Our Design Specialists can diagnose the problem, how we will fix it, who is coming to the house, and how long it will take to do the work. Once Dean drafted up the schematic for the client, he could provide a permanent solution that will prevent the homeowners from getting waterproofing done again. On a later day, we had our experienced installation team, Dustin Biggs and Alan Murphy, come to the home to start the waterproofing process. The job was projected to take about 6 hours since the waterproofing would be half of the wall and underneath the flooring to re-channel the drainage system. Dustin and Alan were ready to start. They started by cutting away at the drywall that the water had soaked up. Next, Dustin began to jackhammer a trench around the perimeter to channel the water in the sump away from the other house areas. Once the trench was made, it was time to place the drainage piping. Gravel was laid around to prevent the drainage system from excess outside water flowing through the gravel and into the sump. Dustin will then pour fresh concrete on top of the system to prevent it from getting damaged or tampered with. Alan proceeded with applying the clean space wall membrane to waterproof the walls from any water in the future. There is a drainage system, gravel for any excess water, and a wall membrane for any water after that. This basement is beyond waterproof. As a result, the homeowner doesn't ever have to worry about the flooding occurring again in their basement.
