Basement Waterproofing Case Studies: Musty Cold Room in Richmond Hill, Ontario
Challenge
When you think of a cold room, you typically think of that small, musty room in your basement. You’ve never been able to use the space for anything more than potatoes and dry goods, so the idea of expanding it into something more is appealing.
A customer in Richmond Hill, Ontario, has a large cold room in his basement. The space was always musty and wet, and he wanted to expand the usable space in his basement. He reached out to Clarke Basement Systems and met with System Design Specialist Ben Wallis.
Ben inspected the home and showed the customer our Cold Room Encapsulation System. The customer was excited to have a usable cold room, and a date was booked for the repair.
Solution
Foreman Don Clarke started by installing drainage panels on the cold room ceiling. The walls were encapsulated to catch water seeping in through the walls and feed it to an in-floor drain. Lastly, a SmartSump® was installed to remove the water out of the space and pump it outside.
The homeowner is thrilled with the cold room solution provided by Clarke Basement Systems. He’s looking forward to having extra space to use, and he’s delighted the musty smell is gone.
