Basement Waterproofing Case Studies: Basement Water Seepage Puts Man Cave on Hold in Stouffville, Ontario
Challenge
We all use our basements for something a little bit different. Storage, entertainment, a home office, a nursery; the options are endless. One phrase in particular from recent years comes to mind when talking about basements, and that is mancave. Not exclusive to just men, a man cave is a room or basement where people go to relax, watch TV, or hang out. They’re a great way to use the extra space in your basement, so long as nothing decides to rain on your mancave parade.
For a customer in Stouffville, Ontario, his dream mancave was almost complete. A unique barn door led the way to an additional room, and the customer was hoping to have the space finished in time for the basketball season. He was looking forward to watching the game with friends, but unfortunately, he was getting water in the basement. His exterior weeping system had failed, and water was seeping in through the wall and floor joint.
Solution
Looking to stop the water before it damaged his entertainment area and wanting to finish his renovation, the homeowner called Clarke Basement Systems. He met with System Design Specialist Kayton Zarhloul and Kayton walked him through a system that would stop the water and keep his basement dry.
Our foreman and his team worked hard, installing several waterproofing products. He started by encapsulating the lower portion of the room with CleanSpace® Vapour Barrier before installing a WaterGuard® Drain System along the perimeter. CleanSpace® is the perfect option for stopping water after it seeps through the wall. Any water that comes through the wall is funnelled down to the WaterGuard® Drain.
From there, the water drains into the newly installed SuperSump® Sump Pump. Since rain doesn’t stop when the power cuts out, our team installed an UltraSump® Battery Backup. To add additional peace of mind, the customer opted to include an IceGuard® Discharge Line as part of his system. An IceGuard® Discharge has a built-in overflow in the event of a blockage due to freezing.
The customer is delighted that his basement is dry. He can continue to finish his renovation, and his friends will be over to watch the game in no time… and with dry feet!
