Basement Waterproofing Case Studies: Form Tie Leak Puts Travel Plans on Hold in Stouffville, Ontario
Challenge
Travelling is a pastime enjoyed by many. Seeing parts of the world, we aren’t accustomed to gives us a new sense of understanding and creates memories that last forever. We can’t wait to take a trip down south, to Europe, or even just out to a campground for the weekend. Whatever your favourite destination is, it’s nice to leave your worries at home and escape for a little while.
For a family in Stouffville, Ontario, a leaking form tie hole was making it hard to travel. Many of their belongings in the basement were ruined, and they were worried about what they would come home to when they get back from their frequent RV trips — looking for a solution they contacted Clarke Basement Systems and set up a free inspection.
Solution
System Design Specialist Kayton Zarhloul met with the customers at their home and inspected the property. The customers were interested in learning how the problem would be solved, and Kayton designed a system to keep their basement dry.
Foreman Dave Jackson was tasked with installing the waterproofing system. He started by encapsulating the space with CleanSpace® Vapour Barrier. CleanSpace® stops any water that enters through the wall by directing it down to a drain. Dave excavated the perimeter of the basement and installed a WaterGuard® Drain System and WaterGuard® Inspection Ports. The drain catches any water stopped by the CleanSpace®, and the ports allow for easy maintenance down the road.
To efficiently expel the water from the basement, Kayton designed the system to include a TripleSafe® Sump Pump and an UltraSump® Battery Backup. Together these products keep water flowing year-round, regardless of a power outage. For extra peace of mind during the winter, Dave also installed an IceGuard® Discharge Line, preventing a buildup due to freezing.
The customer is thrilled that they can finally travel in peace again. Their basement and belongings are dry, and they’re looking forward to hitting the road in their RV again!
