Basement Waterproofing Case Studies: Water Seepage Through Block Foundation in Newmarket, Ontario
Challenge
When you walk into your basement, the last thing you want to be faced with is a musty smell. It’s impossible to miss, and usually indicates a water or mould issue. We want to protect our investments, and the best way to do that is to ensure our basement stays dry, preventing any humidity and framing issues.
A customer in Newmarket, Ontario, was dealing with a moisture issue in their basement. Their home was almost 100 years old and built on a block foundation. We had previously waterproofed a section of the unfinished basement and installed a sump pump, but the water was now coming in through a different leak.
Looking to protect his investment, the customer reached out to our Customer Service Department to set up a free inspection.
Solution
System Design Specialist Ben Wallis met with the customer at his home to assess the situation. After the inspection, Ben designed a system that would connect to their current SuperSump® pump.
Foreman Jose Martinez started by encapsulating the space with CleanSpace® Vapour Barrier. CleanSpace® catches any seeping water and funnels it downward while giving the area a bright look. Next, Jose installed a WaterGuard® Drain System along the perimeter. WaterGuard® not only catches seeping water from the CleanSpace®, but it also collects groundwater that enters the basement before draining to the sump pump.
The customer’s basement is now protected and dry. They’re protected with our warranty and are thrilled to know that they no longer need to worry about their basement, their belongings, and their investment.
