Basement Waterproofing Case Studies: Humidity and Mould Threatens Newborn's Health in Whitby, Ontario
Challenge
The birth of a child is an exciting time for any parent. Expecting mothers and fathers go a little crazy getting their homes ready for their newborn, but it’s all about making the home as comfortable and safe for the baby as possible.
For a couple in Whitby, Ontario, a humidity level over 80% in their basement had their home feeling more like a rainforest. Mould was beginning to grow, and the parents were concerned about the safety of their newborn baby. They had even gone so far to stuff the vent in the baby’s room with a towel to try and prevent the smell of mould from entering.
Solution
With their child’s safety as the number one priority, the couple reached out to Clarke Basement Systems. System Design Specialist Ryan Hanlon met with the family and discussed their options. The family chose to go with an Aprilaire® Dehumidifier to significantly reduce the basement humidity and stop the growth of mould. Foreman Lucio Flores installed a brand new SuperSump® Sump Pump, and he set up the dehumidifier to drain right into the sump pump.
With the humidity at a healthy percentage and the mould no longer growing, the customers are thrilled that their baby is safe. The mould smell is gone, and they have finally removed the towel from the vent.
