Basement Waterproofing Case Studies: Soaked Backyard Floods Basement in Bracebridge, Ontario
Challenge
A wet basement is not an enjoyable experience for any homeowner. Whether it’s dealing with wet belongings, the fear of mould and rot, or just the headache of not knowing when the next flood will be, it’s a stressful situation to deal with. For a customer in Bracebridge, Ontario, a flooded backyard was their first sign that a flood was near for their 33-year-old home.
Their basement was flooding every time there was rain or thaw, rendering the space virtually unusable. Their downstairs bathroom had even turned into a storage room, storing belongings you wouldn’t usually find in a bathroom. The customer had a previously installed sump pump, but the water was entering in different areas of the basement now. The insurance company had removed the wet and ruined drywall, and the customer’s next step was to put a system in place to stop the water from causing further damage.
Solution
System Design Specialist Robert Langton went to the home to inspect the situation. He worked with the customer to develop a system to waterproof their basement and put their flood worries at ease.
Foreman Jose Martinez and his team installed a WaterGuard® Drain System around the perimeter of the basement where water was coming in. This catches and diverts water to the sump pump. A secondary SuperSump® Pump was installed, along with an UltraSump® Battery Backup in case of a power failure. To ensure year-round peace of mind, Jose installed an IceGuard® Discharge Line and heat cable, to prevent freezing and allow the system to drain, no matter the weather.
The customer is thrilled about their new waterproofing system. With a full drainage perimeter, two sump pumps, and a year-round discharge line, they’re protected for 25-years thanks to our warranty. Now, every time their backyard floods, the customer’s first response won’t be to run down and check their basement for water but to sit back and relax.
