Buying a house is an exciting experience, but it can quickly turn stressful when you find something wrong with your new home. This was the case for an Innisfil, Ontario family who had a totally saturated sub-basement in their newly purchased 43-year-old house. Poor grading around the house and a crack in the floor was causing water to enter the basement when it rained and during thaw season. While the home was new to the customer, they figured this problem had been going on for some time.
The handy homeowner had recently completed a demo of the basement, but wanted this problem dealt with before completing their basement renovation. The condition of the basement made it unsafe for their kids and dog to utilize, and doing laundry become very difficult. The lack of useable space also caused cramping on the main floor, and frustration for the entire family.
Keen to continue their basement reno, the homeowner reached out to Clarke Basement Systems to find a solution for their wet basement. System Design Specialist Alex Barnik visited the home and came up with a plan to waterproof the basement and give the homeowner some peace of mind.
We installed CleanSpace® Vapor Barrier, encapsulating the entire basement. CleanSpace® has a durable white finish and plastic connectors, providing a 25-year guarantee while also brightening up the space. CleanSpace® prevents any seeping moisture from entering the area and sends moisture from the walls downward to our WaterGuard® Drainage System. WaterGuard® collects water in a durable plastic drain where the floor and wall meet. It sends that water to the newly installed SuperSump® pump. Our SuperSump® is built with a cast-iron pump for durability, and pumps 2,220 gallons of water per hour. This promptly removes any water that does enter the basement and ensures the space will stay dry for years to come.
Upon completion of the job, the customer was extremely satisfied with the final outcome. He was relieved his kids and dog can play downstairs in a bright, dry space without constantly having to worry. Laundry is now a pleasant experience, in a nice environment. The homeowner also loves how good the work looks after the installation.
