Musty Odour from Crawl Space in Ennismore, ON

Walking through your front door and getting hit with a wall of odour leads a homeowner to worry. What’s causing it, how to fix it, and how much it will cost are typically the first thoughts to cross your mind.

A customer in Ennismore, Ontario, was tired of walking into a smelly home each day. The problem had grown worse over the last few years, so he reached out to Clarke Basement Systems, ready for a change.

System Design Specialist Chris Luke met with the client and thoroughly inspected his house and surrounding property. Chris determined the smell was coming from the dirt floor in the crawl space, so he designed a system to waterproof the area.

Foreman Dave Jackson and his crew, Installation Specialists Alan Murphy and Bryan Richards, started by laying down drainage matting over the dirt floor to prevent water from pooling. We encapsulated the entire space with CleanSpace® Vapour Barrier to seal out moisture from the ground. We established a SmartSump® Pump System to remove water through an IceGuard® Discharge Line, preventing any backups caused by freezing. Lastly, an Aprilaire® Dehumidifier is used to control the relative humidity.

The homeowner is blown away by how quickly the smell dissipated. He can finally breathe a sigh of relief and has peace of mind knowing his home is protected.
