Old Window Well Pulls Away from Home in Markham, Ontario

Over time it’s common for some things around a house to fail. Families build and install home improvements with hopes they’ll last forever, but normal wear and tear eventually take their toll.

A customer in Markham, Ontario, had an old galvanized window well at the side of their house. The frame started to pull away from the house due to repeated freezing and thawing over the years. Pests and debris were continually finding their way inside the well. It was only a matter of time before the drainpipe would fail, leaving the house susceptible to water overflowing into the basement.

System Design Specialist Ron Monk met with the homeowner and noticed how the window well had become rusted and damaged from every day rain and debris. Ron showed the customer our SunHouse™ Basement Window Enclosure – a bright, clean way to solve the problem and extend the life of the window frame.

Foreman and company owner Don Clarke removed the original window well and made sure the soil was stable. Once the area was ready, Don installed the new SunHouse™ Basement Window Enclosure. SunHouse™ window wells are an attractive and clean alternative to conventional window wells. The enclosed bottom and clear cover prevent weeds from growing and keeps rain, dirt and wildlife out. The bright-colour design reflects as much natural light as possible into the basement. Before completing the repair, Don checked the drainage system to make sure water would not overflow in the well.

The customer is very impressed with the professional work and service provided by the Clarke Basement Systems team. The SunHouse™ Window Well Enclosure improved his home’s appearance, and he doesn’t have to worry about the drain failing and flooding the basement.
