Wet Basement Goes Dry Thanks to Waterproofing System and New Window Well in Stouffville, Ontario

Who doesn’t love a finished basement? It adds a whole new floor to your home, increases its value, and let’s face it; they’re just really nice to have. A customer in Stouffville, Ontario, was planning on refinishing their basement, but water seepage and an old window well put those plans on hold.

The homeowner was getting water in the basement through the wall/floor joint and old form ties. The first step of their reno was to add an egress window to make the basement a livable space, but their old window well didn’t drain properly. This caused a buildup of water, adding even more fuel to the basement flooding. Anxious to renovate and keep their belongings dry, the customer contacted us for a quote.

System Design Specialist Chris Luke met with the customer and addressed their concerns. After working with the homeowner to develop a plan that fit their needs, Foreman Dave Jackson worked hard to install the waterproofing system. We used a WaterGuard® Drain System to catch any water that entered, which was drained outside through an IceGuard® Discharge Line, thanks to the new TwinPump® Sump System.

To keep the walls of the basement dry and insulated, Chris included ThermalDry™ as part of the waterproofing system. ThermalDry™ is an insulator and vapour barrier all in one. Since one of the leading causes of water buildup was the window well, Dave installed a brand-new window well over the egress window. This prevents an overflow of water and keeps the egress window safe.

With their basement finally safe and dry, the homeowner can continue with their planned renovation. They have the peace of mind knowing that the added value from the basement won’t be ruined by water damage, and our warranty gives them added protection for years to come!
