Do I need to service my sump pump?

Great question. 

 

The answer is a definite “YES!”

 

We also get asked, “why do I need to service my sump pump?”

 

Well, the purpose of this below-grade (ground) pump is to expel or pump out any water that collects in the pit where the pump is located. If it isn’t in good working order the results can be catastrophic. A wet basement. Damage to carpet, wall finishes, anything that is stored down there can be damaged. And if there is enough water, it will also destroy your hot water tank or furnace.  

 

So the purpose of a regular sump pump inspection is no different than filling up your car with fuel or having the oil changed periodically. You want a trouble-free car ride. Well in this case, you want a dry basement.  

 

Our goal at Clarke Basement Systems is to be “proactive” whenever possible. You shouldn’t wait till your tire blows out to change it – you regularly add air or inspect them. And with your sump pump, it’s much the same. If it’s a tired-out pump, we will recommend changing it, or maybe it’s just a few small parts to keep it in good shape.  

 

With our regular sump pump service, we go further:

·       We can test your drainage system by doing a flood test;

·       Inspect your foundation and downspouts making sure they are adequate, and make recommendations; 

·       Clean out silt or debris that has washed into the sump pit where your sump pump lives;

·       Inspect/replace check valve;

·       Change the batteries in your sump pump alarm system(s). Much like a fire alarm battery, we will do a diagnostic test of your battery backup system if you have one;

·       We will ask questions and answer your concerns regarding your sump pump or other foundation concerns.
