Clarke Basement Systems Case Studies: Bowing Block Wall in Peterborough
Challenge
After doing routine maintenance to the basement the home owner found that the block foundation wall had bowed in to the basement by 1". The concern was that the wall would eventually collapse causing a complete failure to the home. The home owners had begun the process of getting estimates to have the foundation wall replaced. The costs for the family became prohibitive for them and had decided to take their chances and hope that the block wall would not move any further. The following 3 months showed that the wall was still moving and had also sheared the bottom block 1" from its original position and the wall had bowed a further 1/4 inch. This caused the family to finally get the wall repaired. The original estimates that the owners received showed that the replacement wall was going to cost $40-$70,000. this is when they called Foundation Supportworks Of Ontario.
Solution
Using PowerBraces Foundation SupportWorks of Ontario was able not only to stop any further movement of the wall but straightened it, making it plumb and level. The most appealing part of the project for the young family was that the project was completed from the inside of the house in 1 day but the costs in this case was less than 30% of the original quotations.
