Clarke Basement Systems Case Studies: A Complete Basement Waterproofing System in Markham, ON
Challenge
Homeowners in Markham, ON had just moved into their new home a few months ago. They were planning on renovating their basement until they discovered stains on their carpet. Once they opened up the drywall, they found that their basement had excessive dampness, discoloration, odours, and rust due to water seepage.
This basement foundation was made up of poured concrete walls, which causes water to typically leak along the joint between the floor and the wall. However, in this case, the holes in the walls from form tie holes. When contractors build foundation walls with poured concrete, they stabilize the walls with rods, which leave holes in the wall. If the holes are not sealed properly, water will seep through, wreaking havoc on a finished basement.
This caused the homeowners to regret buying their home. They didn't budget for any extensive work and did not plan on remodelling for at least a few years. Of course, the homeowner was upset as there was no expectation of having to do repairs in a home where they just moved in. They were fearful of the future damage that would incur if they did not have the basement waterproofed. That was when they decided to contact Clarke Basement Systems.
Solution
Soon after, System Design Specialist, Ron Monk, was at their home giving them a free estimate. Ron came up with the solution to install our patented ThermalDry™ wall membrane and CleanSpace® wall membrane to direct the water, which would then drain into our WaterGuard® basement waterproofing system. The WaterGuard® would then route the water to their new TripleSafe™ Sump Pump, where the water is ejected out and away from home through our patented IceGuard™ discharge line. IceGuard™ is guaranteed to prevent any water from freezing during our cold winter months.
With this thorough assessment and plan in place, Installation Foreman, Lucio Flores, and his team of installation specialists got to work.
While working diligently, they would educate the homeowner of our process and of what they were installing, keeping the home clean in the process.
Once everything was installed, the homeowners were relieved that there would be no further issues with water in the basement. Although they had not expected to have to do this work, they can renovate the basement without worrying about any further damage. Since this is a long-term home, they have peace of mind and a warranted dry basement and were exceptionally thankful that Clarke Basement Systems gave them a permanent solution.
