Clarke Basement Systems Case Studies: Updated Window Well Enclosures, Markham, ON
Challenge
A home in Markham, Ontario had water seeping into the basement. The water was flooding in from the window areas of the basement.
The home had older window wells and they were not installed properly. Over time, the frost had lifted these window wells up, out of the ground. This allowed the dirt underneath to choke off and clog the vertical drainage in the window well area. The homeowner wanted to ensure this problem was fixed so that the basement would be dry and this problem wouldn't happen again.
Solution
The customer called Clarke Basement Systems and talked to the Inspector, Steve Mathews. He showed them the options for a solution. The foreman Don and his crew used Sunhouse window well enclosures.
They offered the depth the house required, a solid bottom to prevent dirt from ever entering the well again, a large clear strong lid so leaves and debris would not fall in again. Due to the fact they were close to the customers natural gas line, Locates were done and 2 of the 3 new window wells had to be hand dug.
They Re-established good vertical drainage to the footing and installed a new gravel bed for the Sunhouse window systems to sit in.
The only thing that will be entering these windows from now on, will be the glorious sunshine. With the large UV protected lid and brighter colored well, even more sunshine will be had in this finished basement.
