Crawl Space

Crawl Space Vent

Old thinking was that crawl spaces should be vented, and many housing codes still require vents. We now know that venting a crawl space is a bad idea.  By letting in outside air, we decrease our home's energy efficiency - we increase our heating bills in the winter, increase our cooling bills in the summer, and actually let more moisture into our homes.

Why crawl space vents don't work

The old thinking was that air would blow in a vent on one side of a house and blow out of the vent on the other side. However, we now know that air circulation in a house works like a chimney; air enters at lower levels, including through crawl space vents, rises up into the house and escapes through the upper levels.
This rising air brings humidity, musty odors, and mold spores from your crawl space into your living space. A crawl space fan or crawl space power fan makes the situation worse!  Sealing and conditioning your crawl space will solve all of these problems and make the air in your home cleaner and healthier.

Crawl Space Vent Cover

Along with the CleanSpace encapsulation system, Basement Systems' crawl space vent covers provide a clean and easy way to save money on your energy bills, keep excess moisture out of your crawl space, and create a healthier environment for your family.

By encapsulating the crawl space with the CleanSpace system, you can close your crawlspace vents for good.

CleanSpace Vent Covers go over the old, corroded, unsightly vents for a nice, clean looking finish. Constructed of durable plastic, they will never rust, rot, or need paint. The crawlspace vent covers have a foam insulation and gasket material on the inside to seal off the outside air completely - and they are available in three different colors to match your home's foundation.
